Local Men Killed, In I-55 Crash

Two young Ste Genevieve men died as a result of a serious accident at the 154-mile marker of Interstate 55 Sunday morning.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol report, they were southbound in a 2009 Pontiac G5 when it travelled off the right side of the roadway, struck a rock bluff and overturned. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by County Coroner Eric Basler. The passenger was taken to St. Louis University Hospital by Air Evac. He died at 4:32 a.m., Monday.

The Highway Patrol no longer releases accident victim names, but the driver was known to be Landon Thompson and the passenger Grant Weiler, both 21. Obituaries are on Page 4A.
