Jacob Schweigert won the MSHSAA Class 2 state heavyweight championship, leaving no doubt that he is No. 1 after pinning his finals opponent to finish his season undefeated in his very last wrestling match.
Schweigert was in this very situation last year when he lost the title bout 1-0 for his only loss that season. Not this time.
The fan favorite celebrated by jumping into the arms of his head coach Jared Bonnell, who himself ended the night with two state champs and another top-four team finish at third place in the boys’ field.
Lady Dragons sophomore Keely Fallert also won the 140 girls’ championship a short while earlier.
It has been quite the school year for Schweigert, a three-sport athlete who got his second all-state honor with the top-six finish in wrestling and also in football a few months ago. He also was offensive lineman of the year for the gridiron Dragons.
