Cannon Care

In January, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2210 members sent their World War I British canon to be sandblasted and restored.  Ives Towing hauled the canon to be sandblasted. The Ste. Genevieve County Sheriff’s

Office provided an escort for the century-old artifact. The VFW got the gun in the 1930s from the Rock Island Arsenal. It was free, but shipping cost $135. It sat on the courthouse square, then to the southwest corner of the courthouse yard for many years before moving to the VFW Hall grounds. Meanwhile, VFW members (right) are preparing a concrete pad for the historic cannon to sit upon, when it returns. On March 2 the VFW is holding a party to raise funds for the cannon’s restoration and maintenance. The Last Resort  (Bob Weiler, Alan Huck, Michael Horn, Denny Hogenmiller and Rick Meyer) will perform. Doors open at 6 p.m.
