Warriors win final game in WWC

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo.  —  Valle Catholic emerged from a recent perimeter slump to connect 14 times from 3-point range on Friday afternoon (Dec. 29), and snapped a five-game losing streak in the process.

Tyler Gegg compiled a double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds, and the host school clipped the Illinois-based Pirates 70-67 for seventh place at the annual Warrior Winter Classic.

Wyatt Fallert added 15 points and A.J. Basler netted 14 as Valle Catholic (4-6) snapped a five-game slide. Zach Naeger finished with 11.

The Warriors rallied from a 20-16 deficit through eight minutes to lead 36-29 at halftime.

Valle and Valmeyer meet again in the first round of the Chester (Ill.) Invitational Tournament.

St. Vincent 59, Warriors 56

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo.  —  St. Vincent sent Catholic school rival Valle toward a fifth straight loss after preserving a consolation triumph at the Warrior Winter Classic on Thursday (Dec. 28).

Jacob Schremp and Colden Prost each scored 15 points, and the Perryville-based Indians advanced to face Valley Park in the fifth-place game on Friday.

St. Vincent (5-5) entered the fourth quarter holding a 50-43 lead, and was bolstered by nine points from Payton Straatman and seven more from Max Wheeler.

Valle (3-6) closed to within 57-56 as Kellen Tucker stole an inbound pass and Colin Henderson hit a layup with 24 seconds to play.

The Indians followed with two splits of free throws, with an offensive rebound in between, and held on when a 3-point attempt by A.J. Basler caromed long off the rim.

Tyler Gegg netted a game-high 19 points for the Warriors, who jumped ahead 17-12 through the first quarter before trailing 32-30 at intermission.

Josh Fallert added 11 points, exclusively in the first half, and Henderson ended with nine. Valle slipped into a seventh-place contest with Valmeyer (Ill.).

Seckman 69, Warriors 35

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo.  —  Valle Catholic committed 22 turnovers and shot 2-of-15 from beyond the arc while falling to the Imperial-based Jaguars in the first round of the Warrior Winter Classic on Wednesday (Dec. 27).

The Warriors (3-5) suffered their fourth straight loss.

Colin Debold produced 18 of his game-high 25 points before halftime, and grabbed seven rebounds as the third-seeded and the Class 6 Jaguars advanced to face Kingston on Thursday.

Seckman (4-4) received 12 points from Keagan Heitert plus 10 more from Sam Wason, and never looked back after building a 42-20 halftime lead.

Tyler Gegg again paced Valle Catholic with 13 points. Zach Naeger grabbed eight rebounds, and equaled A.J. Basler with eight points each.

The Warriors trailed 24-14 through one quarter.
