LEADWOOD, Mo. — Valle Catholic forced 27 turnovers, and defeated conference rival West County, 39-28, to place fifth in the eight-team, two-site First State Community Bank Christmas Tournament on Saturday (Dec. 30).
Brooklyn Weibrecht compiled 12 points, six rebounds and three steals for the Warriors, who surrendered just one field goal in the first nine minutes on the WCHS floor.
Ade Weiler added 10 points, eight rebounds and four steals, and dropped in a putback shot to give Valle Catholic (8-3) a 19-10 advantage at halftime.
Madelyn Griffard grabbed seven rebounds, and matched Mara Hoog with six points each in the win.
West County (4-10), which won the four previous tournament titles, was paced by freshman Dhatri McRaven with seven points and eight rebounds.
Paige Monroe sank two 3-pointers, and picked up six rebounds for the Bulldogs.
Warriors 41, Viburnum 23
CADET, Mo. — Madelyn Griffard scored 13 points, and the Valle Catholic girls rode their effective defense to a win over Viburnum in the consolation semifinals of the two-site FSCB Christmas Tournament on Friday (Dec. 29) at Kingston High.
Brooklyn Weibrecht tossed in 11 points, and Ade Weiler contributed nine as Valle (7-3) moved into a clash with West County for fifth place on Saturday.
After being held to just two points in the first quarter, the Warriors returned the favor and seized a 16-12 lead at halftime. The margin swelled to 35-20 through three periods.
Katelee Payne netted a game-high 18 points for Viburnum, and exclusively scored during an opening 10-2 run by her team. She added two 3-pointers in the third quarter.
Valleprevailed decisively despite hitting only 3-of-10 free throws.
West County edged De Soto 59-56 to complete the fifth-place pairing.
Perryville 51, Valle Catholic 46
LEADWOOD, Mo. — Brooklyn Moll finished with a game-high 23 points, and Perryville held off Valle Catholic in the quarterfinals (first round) of the two-site FCSB Christmas Tournament on Thursday (Dec. 28) at West County High.
The Pirates surged ahead 20-7 through one quarter, and restored a 12-point advantage with 1:40 remaining in regulation after the halftime margin was reduced to 27-19.
Ade Weiler capped a 10-2 run with a jumper as the Warriors closed to within 49-46, but a couple of perimeter shots missed in the closing seconds.
Perryville (5-3) got 10 points from Janie Porter and eight more from Abby Amberger while advancing to face top seed Hillsboro on Friday.
Valle (6-3) knocked down just 12-of-27 free throws in defeat, and dropped into the fifth-place bracket against Viburnum.
Weiler netted a team-high 13 points, and Madelyn Griffard tallied 11. Mara Hoog and Brooklyn Weibrecht chipped in eight apiece.
In other quarterfinal action, Jefferson topped West County 68-40, Hillsboro eased past Viburnum 62-23, and Cuba downed De Soto 70-42.
