Last Thursday at approximately 11:30 p.m., Ste. Genevieve officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Jefferson Street for a report of a stabbing.
An officer arrived and was able to locate the victim. The victim is a 38 year old male that resides on Jefferson Street in Ste. Genevieve. The victim had been stabbed/cut in the right arm and had what appeared to be an arterial bleed.
Officers were able to apply a tourniquet to control the bleeding until the ambulance arrived. The victim was transported to a St. Louis hospital where he has undergone surgery for his injuries. The extent of the victim’s injuries is unknown at this time.
An investigation revealed that the victim went outside of his home to confront the driver of a vehicle that had been doing “burnouts” in the victim’s driveway. An argument ensued and the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim. The suspect then fled the scene.
On Friday morning, at approximately 7:15 a.m., officers located the suspect in the 900 block of Market Street. After a brief struggle with the suspect, he was taken into custody.
The suspect is identified as a 30 year old male from Ste. Genevieve. The suspect is currently being held in the Ste. Genevieve county jail. A probable cause statement has been forwarded to the Ste. Genevieve County Prosecuting Attorney and we are asking for the following charges:
• Assault 1st degree
• Resisting Arrest
• Assault on Law Enforcement
• Property Damage 2nd Degree
• Leaving the scene of motor vehicle accident
This is an ongoing investigation.
