U.S. military personnel who paid the ultimate price in serving their country will be honored next Monday on Memorial Day.
A mass will be held at 9 a.m. at the Church of Ste. Genevieve.
At 11 a.m., a service will be held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2210 (852 Veterans Way).
Lisa McGregor, mother of the late Sgt. Michael Beckerman, will be guest speaker.
Beckerman, age 25, a former resident of Ste. Genevieve, died Dec. 31, 2010 in Kandahar Province, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.
He was in his fourth tour of duty, assigned to the 2nd Brigade Support Troop Battalion, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault).
Food and drinks will be available and the Ste. Genevieve Muny Band will play.
Weather-permitting, flags of deceased veterans will be raised to form an Avenue of Flags at 6 a.m., and taken down 4-4:30 p.m. Last year about 220 flags flew.
Dennis Grass, post commander, said the flags will be returned to their rightful owners afterward.
The flags should be brought in this week, any evening Tuesday through Friday, or 8 am., to noon on Sunday.
