SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — No. 4-ranked Valle Catholic got quite the fight from No. 1 Concordia, but the Warriors are bringing home the state title after a 2-1 victory Tuesday afternoon during the championship game of the MSHSAA Class 1 spring softball championships at Missouri State University.

Valle’s Abree Zipprich and Concordia’s Olivia Hemme engaged in an epic pitchers’ duel for nine innings, but RBI-doubles from both returning player Makayla Joggerst and No. 9-batter Addi Donze allowed the Warriors to prevail for their first-ever state title in softball.
Head coached by Kurt Basler, the softball Warriors (20-3) won their 20th game of the season, and more importantly join the ever-growing list of other Valle programs that have claimed the state championships since 1980 (now 28 state titles in five sports).
Basler also wins his 101st game of his coaching career, all at Valle. The Warriors win their 11th straight game to close their season.
Concordia falls to 27-2 as state runner-up. The title loss ended the Orioles’ 10-game winning streak.
The Warriors stayed after the game to watch fellow MAAA Conference member West St. Francois County play in the Class 2 championship game later in the day, which ended in a 6-0 loss to Class 2’s No. 1 team Mt. Vernon.
