New board of aldermen liaisons were named for various groups at last Thursday night’s board meeting.
Joe Steiger, new Ward 3 alderman, was named liaison to the joint tourism committee, Dr. Gary Smith, new Ward 1 alderman, to the planning and zoning commission, Ward 3 Alderman Jeff Eydmann to the Ste. Genevieve Access Television Board, Smith to the Heritage Commission, and new Ward 2 Alderman Eric Bennett to the Park Board.
TABLING OF CONSENT ITEMS
Early in every meeting, the board votes whether to approve the consent agenda, a miscellaneous collection of generally non-controversial items including appointments to various boards.
This time, however, both Smith and Ward 2 Alderman Bob Donovan urged having items on the consent agenda tabled. Smith wanted the appointment of Bill Hart and Thomas Hooper to the Heritage Commission and Donovan wished to table a resolution allowing the city to accept a cost proposal from Cochran engineering for asphalt overlay testing services.
Donovan complained that the contract had no dollar amount and was “open-ended,” with just a fee schedule provided City Administrator Happy Welch told him Cochran would be called as many times as needed during the paving project
