Warriors Have Busy Week, But Only Lost Once

STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo.  —  Flyweight Kaden Gegg and middleweight Joseph Flieg both claimed their 100th career wrestling victories as Valle Catholic rolled over Potosi 48-21 at the VCHS gymnasium Thursday (Jan. 12).

The dual lasted barely 30 minutes as the host was up 24-0 just like that and that was enough for the team victory.

Valle won four matches by pinfalls and four more by forfeits. Every match but one was decided by either pin or forfeit. There were two double forfeit and the event started at the 106-pound match.

Gegg pinned Levi Dicus in 17 seconds for his career milestone for a 6-0 lead, while Flieg pinned Garrett Hale in the second period for achievement for a 24-0 advantage.

Conner Clanton (126) and Gavyn Joggerst (150) also won by pins.

Kalan Fallert (120), Tucker Bertrand (175), Jacob Calbreath (190) and Espn Reed (285) each won by forfeits.

Park Hills Central 43, Warriors 36

PARK HILLS, Mo.  —  The host Rebels put a stop to Valle Catholic’s winning ways by doing just enough early on last Tuesday (Jan. 10).

The Warriors won the last four matches for 24 points but it was too late. They did hold a 6-0 lead, but trailed 43-12 midway through despite cutting their debt to 18-12 at one point at the T.J. Foulon Fieldhouse.

Valle recorded five wins via pins and another by forfeit in the process.

This dual, that was part of a tri-match that included Lift for Life Academy Charter, started at the 106-pound match.

Kaden Gegg (106), Conner Clanton (132), Tucker Bertrand (175), Jacob Calbreath (190) and Espn Reed (285) each won by pinfall. Noah Elbert (215) won by forfeit.

Warriors 57, Lift for Life 6

PARK HILLS, Mo.  —  Valle Catholic rolled over the Hawks, winning the last six matches that was part of a tri-match with the host Central last Tuesday (Jan. 10) at CHS’s T.J. Foulon Fieldhouse in Park Hills.

The Warriors won the first match, then dropped the second match for their only loss. They claimed four bouts by pin and five more on forfeits.

There were three double forfeits along the way. The match started at the 106-pound division.

Kaden Gegg (106), Conner Clanton (132), Gavyn Joggerst (157) and heavyweight Espn Reed (285) won by pins.

Noah Elbert (215) won by decision.

Kalan Fallert (120), Wil Kuehn (138), Jayce Bales (165), Tucker Bertrand (175) and Jacob Calbreath (190) each won by forfeit.

Warriors 45, St. Francis Borgia 24

WASHINGTON, M0.  —  Two Catholic schools known to be powers in other sports    Valle Catholic football and St. Francis Borgia basketball    closed up the night as Valle went home with a sweep of three teams in the process.

Valle jumped out to a 21-0 lead and never let up, defeating the much, much bigger host easily that was part of a quad-match on the night at Borgia High in Washington last Monday (Jan. 9).

The Warriors won their first four matches for the early lead and never looked back.

The match started at 106 and there was only one double forfeit.

Valle won three matches via pinfall and four more by forfeits. One match was decided by decision.

Kalan Fallert (120), Gavyn Joggerst (150) and Tucker Bertrand (175) each won by pins.

Wil Kuehn (138) won by decision.

Kaden Gegg (106), Conner Clanton (132), Jayce Bales (165), Nolan Prehm (215) each won by forfeit.

Lutheran-St. Charles and Affton were the other teams.

Warriors 36, Lutheran-St. Charles 33

WASHINGTON, M0.  —  These Cougars were a little tougher but Valle Catholic used consecutive forfeits to rally for the dual win that was part of a quad-match on the night at St. Francis Borgia High in Washington last Monday (Jan. 9).

In fact, every match the Warriors won was via forfeit. After defeating the Affton Cougars with ease earlier in the night, Lutheran-St. Charles held a 33-24 lead heading into the final two matchups. Fortunately for Valle, the final two forfeits helped the Warriors escape.

The match started at the 106-pound match.

Valle led 12-0 only for the Cougars to tie at 12-all. Valle led again 24-12 only to quickly trail 33-24 with four straight losses.

Kaden Gegg (106), Easton Koetting (113), Conner Clanton (132), Wil Kuehn (138), Nolan Prehm (215) and Espn Reed (285) each won via forfeits.

Lutheran-St. Charles and host St. Francis Borgia were the other teams.

WASHINGTON, M0.  —  Valle Catholic jumped out to a 42-0 lead and never looked back despite a short rally by the Cougars late in the dual that was part of a quad-match on the night at St. Francis Borgia High in Washington last Monday (Jan. 9).

The Warriors won four matches via pinfall and another five by forfeit. Affton cut it to 42-21 at one point.

The dual started at the 106-pound match. Every match but one was decided by pin or forfeit, and there was only one double-forfeit in the contest.

Clayton Stewart (113), Wil Kuehn (144), sub-heavyweight Noah Elbert (215) and heavyweight Espn Reed (285) each pinned their opponents.
