A House Divided
Nowhere was the nation more divided during the Civil War than in Missouri. Last Saturday, the Ste. Genevieve Sons of Civil War Veterans Camp 326 restaged the Aug. 15-16, 1861 raid on the Merchant’s Bank of St. Louis, Ste. Genevieve Branch by Union troops under Major John McDonald. They took $58,313.30 in coin and currency from the bank, back to St. Louis, to keep it from falling into Confederate hands.
