St. Mary Cannot Vote On Budget

There is still no budget set for the city of St. Mary for fiscal year (FY) 2023.

During last Thursday night’s board of aldermen meeting, a motion to pass a tax levy failed when Alderman Dr. Zen Duda abstained.

Alderman Karl Schultz had not yet arrived when the vote was taken. It failed with two “yes” votes and the one abstention.

The next item on the agenda was to approve the FY 2023 budget. However, City Clerk David Woods explained that the board could not vote on the proposed budget in its current form.  He will have to amend the budget and remove the revenue line items for Real Estate Property Tax ($27,000.00) and Personal Property Tax ($6,500.00) to reflect the failure to pass a tax levy.

A motion to table the budget was then passed.

Department reports were also given.

Alderwoman Annette Hacker read the fire report. There were three calls; one was medical and two were mutual aid for Ste. Genevieve. The new radios have been ordered and are being programmed. The air conditioner on truck 7842 has been repaired in house.  The truck also got a new LED light and are trying to find LED strobes.

It also needs a new suction valve and Sentinel gave a quote of $1,726.50.
