LATHROP, Mo.  — The Ste. Genevieve Post 150 freshmen baseball team rallied to defeat Union (Post 297) via a score of 8-6 late Thursday afternoon during the winners’ bracket semifinals at the Missouri Freshmen American Legion Baseball state tournament at John W. Burns Memorial Park.
Post 150 trailed 5-0 early in the contest, but reached the winners’ finals with the comeback victory.
Ste. Genevieve now faces Kirkwood (Post 156) at 5 p.m. Friday. Both teams currently are 2-0 in the double-elimination state tournament. Kirkwood rolled over Jefferson City (Post 5) 17-2 earlier this day. Jefferson City had received a first-round bye in the 7-team field.
The Ste. Gen-Kirkwood winner advances to the championship finals, while the loser drops to the consolation bracket and fight for survival. The team that survives the consolation bracket then has to beat the winners’ finalist twice to claim the state title.
