Fireworks and other patriotic activities will take place next weekend in Ste. Genevieve and Kaskaskia.
In Ste. Genevieve, a fireworks display will take place at dusk in Pere Marquette Park on Saturday, July 2.
On Monday, July 4, a patriotic celebration will be held on the courthouse square (Third Street), 11-11:45 a.m.
The flag will be marched to the courthouse, then presented and posted. After the Pledge of Allegiance and Lily Adams singing the National Anthem, Mayor Paul Hassler will give a welcome. Local historian Bob Mueller will then give a short history of the Fourth celebrations.
Ron Rayfield will read the Declaration of Independence and the Milice de Ste. Genevieve will fire a salute.
Mueller will speak on honoring veterans and their families and Adams will sing America the Beautiful, before the VFW Honor Guard retires the colors.
