Although a new county fair board is overseeing things, most of the old favorites are back for the 2022 Ste. Genevieve County Fair, which kicks off Thursday, July 7.
The transition to an entirely new board has not been without a few hiccups. There are a few errors and omissions in the fair booklet. In the schedule of events, it lists the popular demolition derby at both 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., on Saturday. There will be no morning demolition derby. The Power Wheels Demo Derby will be at 6 p.m., followed by the regular Demo Derby at 7 p.m.
Plus, the Thursday evening beer garden listed in the program’s schedule, featuring music by KickN Country, will not take place.
“The new board is all on board,” said Martha Resinger, the only holdover from the old board whom the county commission appointed to the new board. “But, it takes more than a year for all the board members to learn how to put on a fair. You have to work on a fair a while year. You have to get all of your vendors, all of your sponsors, it just takes time.”
Resinger noted that for a number of years the fair board president at the time and one or two others tended to take on most of the responsibilities, with others pitching in as needed.
Resinger, a board member for many years, noted that, “When they needed help, we helped.”
Now things are different, with more of the responsibilities being delegated across the new board.
“I’ve worked with my, many people and they’ve poured their hearts out into this,” Resinger said. “I think the ones on the new board now are working hard. I think they’ll do as good, it will just take a year or so. There’s a lot to learn; you can’t just learn it I a couple of months.”
One omission was that vendors were not mentioned in the program. Craft and food vendors will definitely be on hand during the fair.
