Dragons Suffer Walk-off Loss To Begin MAAA Conference Play

Ste. Genevieve saw its two-game winning streak snapped on a walkoff base hit in the eighth inning, thus falling to host Central 4-3 at the Park Hills sports complex on Thursday.

The Rebels Michael Vance ripped a hard single just passed the shortstop’s glove to single home Jaxon Jones to end the MAAA large-schools divisional opener.

The loss snapped the Dragons’ two-game winning streak as they committed four errors and struck out 10 times.

Ste. Genevieve (6-2, 0-1 MAAA) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but the Rebels (3-3, 1-0) got a run in their half of the first. The Dragons got that run back in the fourth, but Central also scored a run in the fifth and the tying run in the seventh to set up the dramatics.

Zach Boyer, a St. Charles County Community Center commit, had a double, a walk, a stolen base and a run scored for the Dragons. Leadoff batter Wyatt Springkamper (run), Aiden Boyer (double, stolen base, RBI), Mason Nix (triple, run, RBI) and Alex Fleeman (RBI) each had a hit. Aiden Meyer (RBI).

Z. Boyer suffered the loss in 2-3 innings of relief work.
