Could Money For Subdivision Be Available Soon?

STE. GENEVIEVE HERALD

Gov. Mike Parson was expected to unveil new funding available to local entities, during his annual State of the State address today.

The Ste. Genevieve County Commission was gearing up last week to be in position to seek some of it for a long-discussed project.

For some time, the county, the city of Ste. Genevieve and the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) have been looking into creating a subdivision along Progress Parkway. The project would include extending Basler Drive.

Local leaders have bemoaned the lack of mid-range new housing in the county for some time. An economic development survey done in the past indicated that more housing would be necessary for much economic development to take place in the county.

Presiding Commissioner Garry Nelson noted that an addition of 80 new homes would add that much more in real estate and personal property taxes and would bring and additional 80 households into area stores, spending more money.
