In the schools: R-II District Urging Families To Fill Out Meal Applications
From staff reports
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is providing free school meals for all children younger than 18 years old during the entire school 2021-22 school year.
This program will run through June 30, 2022.
The district reports it continues to positively impact all students and their families. However, one unforeseen result of this benefit may be a decrease in federal funding for local school districts.
Participation rates in free-and-reduced-price lunch programs are a component of the budget formula.
Decreased participation rates may lead to a decrease in funding for the following school year, the district reports.
In order to minimize this impact for SG R-II, the district has created an incentive program for families.
Families who complete the free-and-reduced meal applications, and are approved for the program, will be placed into a drawing for prizes.
• Families who have already filled out their free-and-reduced price lunch program application – and have been approved for the 2021-22 school year will be placed into the drawing automatically.
• Families who are receiving assistance through state programs will be placed into the drawing automatically as well.
The deadline to submit free-and-reduced meal applications in Friday, Jan. 21, 2022. Fill out the applications early in case any changes or updates are needed for their applications to be approved.
Prizes will be drawn in February 2022. Those prizes are a 43-inch Vizio TV, Apple iPad, Apple Watch, four sets of wireless ear buds, two Jetson scooters and two helmets, a backpack and two Chromebook insurance vouchers.
Families may print applications on the live feed section of the district’s website: www.sgdragons.org.
Return applications to Lorena Roth, 375 N. Fifth Street, Ste. Genevieve, Mo. 63670, or drop them off at your child’s office.
If you need a paper copy, or have any questions regarding the applications, call 1-573-883-4500, ext. 2008.
