LaGuignolee Will Perform Dec. 3
The LaGuignolee group will meet at the American Legion Post 150 at 5 p.m., Friday, Dec. 31.
There they will warm up, then will head to the three nursing homes, before stopping at Cafe Genevieve (Flash Cafe building) at about 6:30 p.m.
They will sing at the Legion club room, Valle Catholic High School at 7 p.m., the Anvil at 7:10, the Old Brick at 7:20, the Centre For French Colonial Life at 8 p.m..
They will then do a street dance on Main Street in front of the Welcome Center at 8:15 p.m., and the Audubon at 8:45 p.m.
The group will then head back to the legion hall at 9:15, the Point bar at 9:45,the Sand Bar at 10 p.m. the Elks Lodge at 10:30, the Zell Jaycees at 10:45, then back to the legion hall.
Every New Year’s Eve this French custom is carried on in Ste. Genevieve, dating back some 250 years.
The song is a combination of a request for a piece of meat for soup and a romantic serenade to the eldest daughter of the house.
