High school boys’ and girls’ basketball team in Ste. Genevieve County will be participating in tournament action next week.

The Valle Catholic Invitational girls’ tournament is set to begin on Monday, Nov. 29, with Ste. Genevieve playing St. Paul Lutheran at 6 p.m. — followed by host Valle squaring off with St. Vincent at 7:30 p.m.

The tournament is back on the docket in 2021, after a one-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. This tournament has been a longtime fixture in the community — now in its sixth decade.

Here’s how the rest of this round-robin formatted tournament shapes up.

Wednesday, Dec. 1

6 p.m., Ste. Genevieve vs. St. Vincent

7:30 p.m., St. Paul Lutheran vs. Valle Catholic

Thursday, Dec. 2

“There is not a clear favorite (in the tournament),” Valle Catholic head girls’ coach Brian Bauman said. “I think there will be some good games each night. Each team will have a source of strength.”

Ste. Genevieve and St. Vincent graduated plenty of players from last year’s teams, meaning both the Dragons and Indians will provide many new fresh faces for the tournament.

Admission to the tournament each day will be $3 for adults and $2 for students and senior citizens. Missouri State High School Activities Association and faculty passes will be honored at the gate.

Plaques will be awarded to the first- and second-place teams. In case of a tie between two teams, the winner will be determined by the results of head-to-head competition. Point differential will be used to break a tie amongst three teams.

“We’re pretty excited to start out on our home court for three games,” Bauman added.

Valle Catholic will have a concession stand running all three days in the school cafeteria.
