Cousins Gerardo Milian and Josiah Seyer are reaching back to their Mexican heritage to bring a new taste treat to Ste. Genevieve.

Milian and Seyer have opened Machos Tacos at 634 Ste. Genevieve Drive (US Highway 61). The building once housed a Taco Bell restaurant.

Milian said most of the recipes come from Seyers’ mother, Fenny Seyer.

“She had some recipes and we just kind of worked from that,” Milian said.

Other recipes he picked up while working at various restaurants and tending bar.

Milian moved from Guadalajara, Mexico he Milian was 6.

“I pretty much grew up in Cape Girardeau,” he said.

Over the years, Milian and Seyers have also worked as roofers. They went into the restaurant business together with a food truck, then opened a restaurant in Jackson.

“We started off with the food truck then we open the location in Jackson,” Milian said. “Then we started on this place, trying to put it back together, to open here.”

He has been extremely pleased with the reception the restaurant has gotten in Ste. Genevieve.

“There are really nice people here,” Milian said. “It’s different from Jackson. We have our regulars there, who really like the place, but here, when we first opened up, everybody has been really nice.

“We’re trying to get a little more involved in the community.”
