POTOSI — For Ste. Genevieve seniors Nathan St. Clair and Levi Wiegand, the Mineral Area Activities Association conference meet served as a chance to add to their resumes.
That’s exactly what these Dragons did.
St. Clair raced in for eighth place with a time of 18 minutes, 17.68 seconds and teammate Wiegand earned 12th, clocking in at 18:47.75 on an unexpectedly warm morning at City Park.
“It was great to have two athletes, Nathan and Levi, earn all-conference honors,” Ste. Genevieve head coach Sierra Boyd said. “The conference always has strong competition, so I’m always proud of our athletes for earning this.”
Boyd said these performances serve as great examples for the underclassmen.
City Park isn’t the easiest 5,000-meter course, with a hill on the back side a difficult challenge — and those warm temperatures didn’t help, either. Runners also face an incline at the starting chute.
“Some of our athletes were hoping for faster race times,” Boyd said. “But, with the combination of the course and weather, they still fared well.”
All of the Dragon underclassmen competed at the varsity level, giving them a gauge for the upcoming district meet on Oct. 30 at Arcadia Valley High School’s Athletic Complex in Ironton.
