One of the Ste. Genevieve County Commission’s major accomplishments during the past couple of years was the completion of a large, paved parking lot.
The lot combined with an older, privately-owned lot, between Market, Merchant and Third streets.
But, where exactly is the parking lot?
That issue was addressed at last Thursday’s commission meeting.
While emergency management director Felix Meyer was there, the question was raised about whether the lot itself should have a 911 address in case of emergency.
Presiding commissioner Garry Nelson noted that telling dispatchers “The big parking lot downtown” might not be a clear location for a new ambulance driver
After checking with the Joint 911 Center in Park Hills, it was determined that the address for the parking lot is 251 Market Street.
R & B SHED OPTIONS
The commissioners discussed options for the road and bridge department’s home base, near Weingarten with foreman Scott Schmieder.
They were already considering adding another bay onto the garage, to use for storing road salt, among other things.
Nelson brought up a small, aging tin shed next to she shop. One possibility could be to tear it down and put a bigger shed in its place.
Nelson told schmieder he should get a priority list of things he needs.
“We can’t buy a new shed, a new pick up and a new shed,” Nelson said.
Schmieder said a new shed would be good to have.
Schmieder also reported that both Truck 7 a 2011 Freightliner in the shop for some time with transmission issues, and the newly-ordered 2022 Western Star dump truck are both waiting on parts.
The new truck is at Viking-Cives in Morley, where it is being fitted out with its bed and other accessories.
Schmieder also said he will be picking up the rubber snow plow blade edges at Viking-Cives, whenever the truck is ready. The blade edges came to $14,898.
He said his crews have been patching asphalt roads and that Burks School Road Straughn Road were finished. Hennick Road was to be done that day (Thursday), with Jackson School Road on the list for this week.
