DeSOTO — In this contest of volleyball-playing Dragons, Ste. Genevieve High School outlasted DeSoto in five sets on Thursday evening.
Ste. Genevieve downed DeSoto by scores of 21-25, 25-16, 25-20, 19-25, 15-8 as Abby Moore pounded down 16 kills and Devyn Basler distributed 30 assists.
“The DeSoto game was our first back with our full line-up,” Ste. Genevieve head coach Carla Basler noted. “I think it’s going to take time to get used to playing next to each other again.
“DeSoto did a nice job defensively,” Basler continued. “They picked up several of our hard hits, and they hustled well. They also found some holes in our defense, which gives us ideas on what we need to work on at practice.”
Ste. Genevieve improved to 8-6-1 heading into Monday’s match at St. Vincent. The Dragons also have pivotal matches with Park Hills Central (home, Tuesday) and Farmington (away, Thursday) this week.
Dru Koetting contributed nine kills and two ace serves. Maya Watts, whose back commanding the libero position, served up five aces. Moore also contributed five solo ace blocks, A.J. Prudent four and Tessa Grass two.
