Current Sullivan High School track and field coach Terry Wood talked Tyne Huck into becoming a coach at St. Vincent High School in Perryville several years ago.

Fast forward to now.

Huck, the Ste. Genevieve head girls’ track and field coach, was named Missouri State High School Activities Association coach of the year. MSHSAA made the announcement last Wednesday.

“The foundation of Tyne’s coaching style is the emphasis she places on really connecting with her athletes,” said Ste. Genevieve R-II school district superintendent Dr. Julie Flieg, whose daughter, Marysa, soared to amazing heights as a javelin specialist for the Dragons.

Marysa Flieg won the Class 3 state javelin title last May, with a school record toss of 144-feet, 3-inches (43.97 meters). She parlayed that success into joining the track and field program at Southeast Missouri State University.
