Shortages Affect School Menus

From Staff Reports

Nationwide shortages within the food industry, which have impacted school districts across the country, including Ste. Genevieve R-II Schools.

The R-II, Food Service Department is experiencing difficulty with unavailable items and last-minute replacements.

Due to the challenges with industry shortages and disruptions to the food supply chain and deliveries, menus may have to be adjusted frequently, sometimes with little notice.

The Food Service Department works closely with its food distributors to source healthy menu options that meet the federal guidelines for Child Nutrition Programs.

In a press release, the district assured parents that a free breakfast and lunch will be available to all students this school year, but that meals are subject to change based on availability, and different grade levels could have different meals on the same day.

Families should keep this in mind when reviewing the printed and online menus and should regularly visit the “Dining” icon on school websites and the app to view any new alternate menu options.
