BOONVILLE — Ste. Genevieve High School girls’ golf opened the season on Friday at the sultry Boonville Par-3 Tournament.

Lani Yamnitz fired the low score for the Dragons with an 83, on a Hail Ridge Golf Course formatted a par-54.

Head coach Rachel McDaniel said the girls acclimated to the heat well, even as temperatures rose into the low-90s.

“It was warm, but the girls are used to it,” McDaniel said. “Practices have been played at normal match time. The girls did a great job expecting the heat, and drinking plenty of fluids.”

McDaniel said the Dragons enjoyed playing in the tournament, and the girls worked on their iron play — plus woods and hybrid clubs.

The format helped prepare Ste. Genevieve for its season-opening home match on Tuesday versus Jackson and Cape Notre Dame Regional at Ste. Genevieve Golf Club in Zell.

Yamnitz spent the summer working at the course, and the extra time at the facility has helped her game.
