PERRYVILLE — The Ste. Genevieve and Valle Catholic High School volleyball programs will be participating in a scrimmage at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 24.
Perryville and St. Vincent will be the other participating schools.
The scrimmage form will be comprised of six sets per school — with two sets against each team going to 15 points.
“The volleyball jamboree will be an opportunity to see how our team skills are progressing,” Valle Catholic head coach Nancy Fischer said. “It is fairly easy to assess individual skills in practice.
But, it is almost impossible to see how team skills stack up unless you are playing against another team.”
Warm-up times will be set according to Missouri State High School Activities Association guidelines.
Each school will provide a line judge for each match they will play.
Admission to the game will be canned food, with collected items donated to area food pantries: the Ladies of Charity Food Pantry through St. Vincent DePaul, the Southeast Missouri FoodBank and others.
Two games will be run at one time — one in the Perryville High School gym and the other in the middle school gym — to ensure the matches are playing quickly.
Fischer added that since teams are participating in multi-team scrimmages — such as the ones here at Progress Sports Complex in July — preseason jamborees aren’t as valuable as they were even just four or five seasons ago.
Both the Valle Catholic and Ste. Genevieve volleyball programs are coming off successful campaigns.
