FROM STAFF REPORTS
CAPE GIRARDEAU — Ste. Genevieve school district students participated in the Southeast Missouri Special Olympic Games on May 1 at Cape Central High School.
The squad has participated in Special Olympics for the past three years, always qualifying for state as a group.
“Our athletes have been working hard despite the cancelations and challenges they’ve faced in the past two years due to the tornado in Columbia, and COVID-19 (coronavirus),” Special Olympics coach/teacher Kristi Cleghorn said.
Cleghorn also expressed how proud she was of the group, and the Dragons earned plenty of medals.
The team also competed in the Mineral Area Activities Association meet at North County High School in Bonne Terre.
The state games are yet to come.
Special Olympics are for athletes from eight years old on up.
More than 15 groups from 14 Missouri counties were in action at the Southeast Missouri event.
