State Qualifier Bieser Opens Season Well

NEW MADRID — The Valle Catholic High School wrestling team opened the 2020-21 season on Tuesday, Dec. 1, dropping a pair of matches to Kennett and New Madrid County.
Kennett defeated Valle Catholic 42-36 while New Madrid County topped the Warriors 39-24.
In the match versus Kennett, state qualifier Josh Bieser won by fall in 2:22 over Otrevian Wells in the bout at 160 pounds. Brandon Giesler, wrestling at 152, also won by second-period pin over Elliott Nelson (3:37).
The Warriors also fared well in the heaviest weight classes, with heavyweight Jacob Calbreath pinning Cirilo Tejada in just 1:25. Jackson Fowler pinned Josh Haywood in 4:41 at 220 pounds.
Joseph Flieg (120) and Tim Okenfuss (182) also won matches via forfeit, accounting for the rest of Valle Catholic’s points.
Last year’s state qualifier Kaden Gegg turned in the only non-forfeit win for Valle Catholic versus New Madrid, pinning Chris Coffer in just 0:23 in the 106-pound bout.
Noah Elbert (195), Flieg and Okenfuss won by forfeit. The match featured double forfeits in the 138- and 145-pound weight classes.
