Students Join Forces To Give Lunch To Vets

Although Ste. Genevieve R-II schools were unable to host its annual Veterans Day activities this year, the schools still found ways to honor local veterans in spirit and through a drive-through lunch.

While students missed having our veterans visit the schools,  students and staff continued to honor them through virtual veterans day assemblies. Students shared their appreciation through videos of thank you clips and photos recognizing our service members.

Ste. Genevieve High School also teamed up with Valle Catholic Schools to provide veterans and their spouses with a drive-through pick-up at the American Legion Hall on Tuesday, Nov. 10.

SGHS broadcasting students and Valle Catholic student volunteers handed out sack lunches that included a deli sandwich, Oberle Meats, chips, cookies, veggies and bottled water.

The following businesses and organizations provided help with the lunches: Oberles Meats, Rozier’s Country Mart, Casey’s, Ste. Genevieve R-II kitchen staff, American Legion Post No. 150, VFW Post No. 2270, the SGHS broadcasting team, FCCLA, SADD, FFA, Student Councils, FTA, SGHS football and SGHS baseball, Valle Catholic student body, Valle Catholic Patrons Club and VCHS Student Council.

Throughout the week, students and staff alike sported red, white and blue clothing this week as students learned about what it means to be a United States veteran. This included presentations for students with a follow-up discussion on what they learned about the branches of service.
