For the first time ever this Sunday, Ste. Genevieve will play host to a Professional Disc Golfers Association-sanctioned event.
“It legitimizes everything we have done so far,” said Ste. Genevieve resident Steve Hoog, one of the players set for competition in this 36-hole event at Pere Marquette Park.
“We will have people coming to the community, and spending a little money here,” Hoog added.
As of Monday morning, 68 people have registered for the Pere Marqutte Open Powered by Prodigy, a disc manufacturer. Registration will close this Friday. Day-of registration will not be allowed, tournament organizers told the Ste. Genevieve Herald.
Hoog reported the disc golf course was first installed at Marquette Park in 2005.
The current layout is a par-57, and provides plenty of challenging shots for beginners and experienced players alike.
