Ste. Genevieve native Abbie Stolzer was a walk-on to the Webster University women’s track and field team.
Which only speaks louder volumes for her accomplishment.
Stolzer on July 29 was named to Webster’s all-decade outdoor track and field squad in the event of discus.
“I reached out to the head track and field coach (about joining the team),” Stolzer said. “It was a defining point to be on the team, and to be able to have been one of he best throwers in the last decade is incredible.”
Chris Thompson, Ste. Genevieve High School’s throws coach, was understandably proud to see Stolzer so honored.
“As a coach, you strive to see your athletes be successful on and off the playing field,” Thompson said. “Abbie has done that. She has worked extremely hard throughout high school and college. All of her hard work has paid off with this great recognition.”
Fittingly enough, Stolzer saved her best throw for last – at the 2019 St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship.
