The Ste. Genevieve High School football team has a new opening week opponent for the hopeful 2020 season.

Meanwhile, Valle Catholic’s football schedule may be changing on the fly thanks to concerns over COVID-19 (coronavirus).

Both Valle Catholic and Ste. Genevieve are coming off successful seasons.

The Warriors conquering all for the Missouri Class 1 title with a 14-1 record. The Dragons had a deep playoff run, finishing with a superb 8-4 mark.

And the “city rumble” between the Dragons and Warriors will take place on Sept. 4 at Father Dempsey Field.

“It’s going to be a big game for both schools so early on in the season,” said Ste. Genevieve head coach Ken Weik.

Valle Catholic head coach Judd Naeger concurred.

“It’s always the big game in town,” he said. “The kids know each other from summer ball. I know they (Ste. Genevieve) graduated a lot, but they’ll have some good, young players.”

But, it all begins for Ste. Genevieve with a home date against Festus while Valle Catholic opens with Skyline for the first of three straight home games.
