Will We Have Fall Sports?
Famous jazz vocalist Al Jarreau, who sang the theme to the 1980s smash television hit, “Moonlighting,” also lent his talents to another tune.
The 1988 song was titled, “All or Nothing At All.”
And that seems to be the approach for the Missouri State High School Activities Association as it relates to playing fall sports and COVID-19 (coronavirus).
“It’s either going to be all fall sports or no fall sports,” said Dr. Jeff Nix, activities director for Ste. Genevieve R-II School District.
Still Nix and Valle Catholic High School co-athletic director and head football coach Judd Naeger are optimistic.
“We will keep listening to the powers that be,” Naeger said, “like MSHSAA and the local health department. So far, it looks good. We’ve had no issues with our team. But, we will continue to take this day by day and week by week.”
Nix gave his thoughts as well.
“I’m still optimistic we will some sort of fall sports season, but that could change tomorrow based on numbers, state, local or nationally,” Nix said.
The Ste. Genevieve County Health Department, which has been providing local directives, has been sending out a small data set through its Facebook page on a daily basis.
