LaFarge-Holcim plant manager Fermado Velencia presented Presiding Commissioner Garry Nelson and Sandra Cabot, Southeast project manager for the Missouri Department of Economic Development, with a $25,000 check to help cover some of the cost of the county’s new parking lot on Market Street.

The money came through Ste. Genevieve County Community Foundation, which has administered payments in lieu of taxes [PILOTS] from the concrete company until it goes on the county tax rolls year from now.

“This has been a project that has been a goal  for Ste. Genevieve as a community for some time and the county commissioners’ vision to take advantage of a building they owned that wasn’t needed because there were more modern facilities available and thew fact that they owned the property,” Cabot said. “We had an opportunity because of the grant funds through the Community Foundation and specifically the community economic development funds that are sponsored by Holcim, to be able to make this happen.”

A number of local organizations have received Foundation grants.
