Joan LaVerne (Brooks) Thomure

Joan LaVerne (Brooks) Thomure died on May 9, 2020 at Riverview at the Park Care and Rehabilitation Center in Ste. Genevieve. She was 86 years old.
She was born October 14, 1933, in Terre Haute, Indiana, a daughter of Winfred and Hazel Brooks.
She is survived by a son, Jim Thomure and his wife Angie of Wentzville; two grandchildren, Kelly Stockhorst and her husband Joshua of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Scott Thomure and partner Matthew Johnson of Wichita, Kansas; and two great grandchildren, Nora and Lucas Stockhorst.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marjorie Canfield.
Soon after her birth, her family returned to Wayne County and lived in Patterson and Piedmont during her childhood.
She was a switchboard operator for Bell Telephone in Farmington and Lammert’s Furniture in downtown St. Louis. After her family came to Ste. Genevieve, she worked at Miss Elaine for 20 years and later was on the original team to open the Grandpa’s store.
She enjoyed cooking and crafts and earned many county fair blue ribbons in each. Her home was decorated with all the ceramic mice she could find. Even later in life as she was receiving care from others, she was able to return the favor by lending a sympathetic ear to many of her caregivers.
A private graveside memorial took place at Patterson Cemetery in Patterson. Ruegg Funeral Home of Piedmont handled the arrangements.
