August ‘Gus’ William Garleb
August “Gus” William Garleb of French Village died on Friday, June 5, 2020, at his home. He was 82 years old.
He was born January 1, 1938, in Columbia, Illinois, a son of Felix Garleb and Ella (Macke) Garleb.
He was married to Donna (Duggins) Garleb in Fredericktown in 1966, and she survives in Ste. Genevieve.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kelly Glenn and her husband Ron of Stratford, Iowa, Terry Grieshaber and her husband Thomas of French Village; one brother, Leroy Garleb and his wife Patricia of Valmeyer, Illinois; four grandsons, Brandon Glenn, Derrick Grieshaber, Ryan Grieshaber, and Ethan Glenn; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Judy Melliere.
He was a man of the farm who enjoyed spending his time working on it. He worked for many years as a hog producer, a heavy equipment truck driver for Tower Rock Quarry, and a few years for the U.S. Army. ln his spare time, he tended his garden, worked on the farm, attended church functions, played cards with the family, and visited friends at the American Legion. He was a loving, supportive and proud husband, father, brother, and grandfather.
A burial site memorial service took place on Monday, June 8, at Crestlawn Cemetery in Ste. Genevieve. Pastor Steve Matthews officiated. VFW Post 2210 provided military honors. Basler Funeral Home of Ste. Genevieve handled the arrangements.
