After Presentations, Ste. Genevieve Aldermen Lean Toward MIRMA For Insurance Coverage

After considerable discussion, the Ste. Genevieve Board of Aldermen chose the Missouri Intergovernmental Risk Association (MIRMA) as its liability insurance and workers compensation provider in a 4-3 canvass vote over Lakenan Insurance last Thursday.
Lee Lottes and Greg Lottes of Lakenan made a presentation to the board of about 30 minutes during a work session dedicated primarily to the issue.
Matthew Broderson, MIRMA executive director, then spoke for about an equal amount of time.
The board followed the presentations by discussing the merits of each for nearly half an hour.
The work session followed a 55-minute regular meeting.
Members expressed reluctance to break with Lakenan, a local company that has brokered the city’s insurance needs in the past. The aggressive training and educational approach promised by Broderson, with a goal of reducing the city’s risk factor, seemed to sway the final decision. The training included working with police officers on exercising judgment in using firearms.
