Silver Sycamore Puts Together Artsy Tribute To Both Schools’ Graduates

The Silver Sycamore unveiled its display of all the seniors from Ste. Genevieve and Valle high schools on Friday night.
The graduating classes of Ste. Genevieve and Valle high schools have missed out on many of the traditions and celebrations that come during the final semester of school due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The community has found some new ways to honor the seniors for completing their high school education.
The Silver Sycamore art gallery at the corner of Market and Third streets on Friday night unveiled a window display featuring photos of all graduating seniors from both schools. The photos are affixed to two pieces — one in each window — that represent the branches of a tree.
“This is Silver Sycamore’s way of honoring the 2020 seniors, and we have the perfect venue,” said Rita Hogenmiller, one of the gallery owners. “We thought it was the least we could to recognize the difficulty surrounding this year for them.”
Hogenmiller is a partner in Silver Sycamore with her husband Tom and with Leon Basler and Lynn Rose Terry.
“We weren’t able to open and be operational and do what we were supposed to be doing,” Rita Hogenmiller said. “So we thought why not reach out and help somebody else and maybe lift their spirits a bit.”
