Outdoor Ceremony Planned For Graduation If It Takes Place June 20
Meeting in person but without an audience on May 19, the Ste. Genevieve R-II School District’s Board of Education addressed graduation and prom plans.
May 13 had been the last day of school work for the seniors and all of them earned their diplomas.
“I am very excited to report that every one of our seniors will be graduating from the Class of 2020,” superintendent Dr. Julie Flieg reported.
She praised Russ Toombs and his grade level team “that handled and in many cases chased down those seniors to get that work finished.”
She also complimented the high school faculty, administration and counselors in their efforts to help the students finish out an academic year that went from live to online after March 17.
“I’m very proud of all of them,” Flieg said.
She said that five military graduates took part in a separate ceremony on May 16, which was Armed Forces Day.
“It was a very nice ceremony,” Flieg said. “Mr. [Jeff] Nix, Mr, [Chris] Hoehne and Dr. [John] Boyd did a great job planning it.”
Flieg said she got “a real nice e-mail” from one of the parents.
“It was a really good, touching and well-deserved ceremony,” Flieg said.
She said that, as of now, the regular commencement exercise will be 8 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at the football field. In case of rain, it would be held the following night at 8 p.m.
