Charles Edward ‘Charlie’ Jokerst

Charles Edward “Charlie” Jokerst of Chesterton, Indiana, died on Sunday, May 10, 2020. He was 78 years old.
He was born on February 6, 1942, in Ste. Genevieve, a son of the late Russell C. and Lorene (Gegg) Jokerst.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Audrey (Zbur) Jokerst; three sons, Doug Jokerst and his wife Jodi, Christopher Maule, Jeff Maule; four daughters, Joan Wickstrom and her husband John, Haley Jokerst, Kelly Muzzarelli and her husband Todd, Carey Schmidt and her husband Edwin; one brother, Bob Jokerst and his wife Pat; three sisters, Carol Papin and her husband Pete, Pat Hedgecoth, Betty DeRousse and her husband Larry; as well as grandchildren, nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Immediately following his graduation from Valle High School in 1959, at the age of 17, he followed his dream of enlisting in the U.S. Navy. As a Navy veteran, he was a proud member of the Ste. Genevieve American Legion 150 and Chesterton VFW. After a long career in the mining industry, he retired as the plant manager of Marblehead Lime in Thornton, Illinois. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed many years of gardening, hunting, and especially fishing with his brother Bob and best friend Jimmy Murphy.
A celebration of life is being planned to take place in the upcoming months. Edmonds and Evans Funeral Home of Chesterton, Indiana, is handling the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or charity of choice.
