John F. Burgert

John F. Burgert of Of Ste. Genevieve died on Thursday, April 2, 2020, at Ste. Genevieve Care Center. He was 87 years old.
He was born January 19, 1933, in Zell, a son of Leonard Burgert and Eleanor (Weiler) Burgert.
He was married to Marilyn M. Burgert on February 14, 1953, and she survives in Ste. Genevieve.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Kertz and her husband Tom of Ste. Genevieve, Rebecca Fernandaz and her husband Kenneth of Festus; four grandchildren, Ryan Renna, Eric Renna, Allie Palos and her husband Kurt, Bryan Kertz and his wife Hannah; and one great-grandson, John Palos.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He was a member of American Legion Post 150 and past president of the Ste. Genevieve Lions Club. John was the mayor of St. Jude Subdivision, a member of Ste. Genevieve Golf Course and the SEMO Seniors Golf Club, and a reader and commentator at the Church of Ste. Genevieve. He won the Silver Cup for best penmanship in the United States. He loved playing golf, going to shooting matches, playing cards with friends, gardening and bowling. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandson.
Private services took place on Saturday, April 4, at Basler Funeral Home in Ste. Genevieve. Rev. Edward Nemeth officiated. Burial was at Valle Spring Cemetery in Ste. Genevieve. Basler Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
