Publisher’s Desk: Community Can Pull Together To Support Each Other In Trying Times

As your hometown newspaper, we have always stressed the importance of supporting local businesses. The owners, as well as their employees, are friends and family members. By supporting a local business, you are not only bringing revenue to our community, but also a spirit of pride. Each owner has taken steps to fulfill a dream, and with your support, you will not only help that dream succeed, but also support the city workers and first responders with the tax revenue. It is a community domino effect.

That domino effect is being tested more now than ever before.

During this COVID-19 pandemic, businesses are forced to re-think ways of supporting customers. From offering curb-side services to delivery options, they are going out of their way to keep their doors open.

There has never been a more critical time to support these owners and their families.

Small business owners are a resilient group of people. They have always been there for you, by supporting your local teams, organizations, charities and community activities. Please be there for them. They need you now more than ever before. Utilize the curb-side service from local restaurants or purchase a gift certificate to be used when businesses re-open. Ask them how you can help.

As your hometown newspaper, we also need your help. News about COVID-19 is changing daily, and sometimes hourly, from a multitude of national, state, county, and local governments. Our staff is working diligently to keep you informed as much as possible. So please check our website daily for updated information and consider signing up for a subscription to keep you regularly updated.

These are trying times, but together we can get through. Our community pride is strong and unstoppable.
