French Village Man Injured In St. Francois County Accident

A French Village man suffered minor injuries in a one-vehicle accident on March 3 in St. Francois County, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The accident took place around 10:42 a.m. on Route K near Route D.

Michael A. Knight, 67, was driving a 1998 GMC van eastbound on Route K when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Knight was taken to Parkland Hospital North (Bonne Terre) by private conveyance.

He was wearing a seat belt, according to the report.

— A Ste. Genevieve man was involved in a five-car accident on Interstate 44 in St. Louis County on March 4.

The accident took place around 7:31 a.m. at the westbound ramp to Highway 141.

Four vehicles — a 2011 Ford Focus driven by Shawn J. Eedghill, 27, of St. Louis; a 2018Nissan Armada driven by Jennifer J. Handyside, 48, of Fenton; a 2013 Toyota Camry driven by Kyle C. Hanes, 34, of Wildwood; and a 2014 Subaru Forester driven by Neil J. Strasser, 45, of Ballwin — were stopped in traffic when a 2001 Sterling L9500 truck being driven by Lester K. Straughan, 56, of Ste. Genevieve failed to stop.

The Sterling struck the Ford, which struck the Nissan, which struck the Toyota, which struck the Subaru.

Three people suffered minor injuries: Eedghill, who was taken to SSM Health St. Clare Hospital by the Fenton Fire Protection District; Handyside, who was taken to her primary care provider by private conveyance; and a juvenile in Handyside’s car who also was taken to a primary care provider by private conveyance.

All parties involved were wearing seat belts, according to the report.

— A Ste. Genevieve woman suffered moderate injuries in a one-car accident on February 27 in Ste. Genevieve County.

Judith A. Schilly, 70, of Ste. Genevieve was driving a 2005 GMC Envoy northbound on Highway 61 at Route O at around 11:05 a.m. when she swerved to avoid a vehicle stopped to turn onto Route O. Schilly’s vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck a rock bluff.

She was taken to Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital by the Ste. Genevieve County Ambulance District.

She was wearing a seat belt, according to the report.

— A French Village woman was involved in but not injured during an eight-vehicle accident on southbound Interstate 270 at Theiss Road on February 21.

The accident took place around 2:50 p.m.

The accident took place as seven cars were stopped for traffic congestion but a 2004 Chevrolet Impala driven by Dustin L. Norton, 28, of Fenton failed to stop and struck a 2014 Subaru Legacy driven by Susan M. Duff, 68, of St. Louis, which struck a 2013 Toyota RAV4 driven by Margaret G. Burns, 67, of St. Louis, which struck a 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA250 driven by Jared C. Howe, 51, of Kirkwood, which struck a 2016 Toyota Corolla driven by Rony A. Artica-Amaya, 41, of St. Louis, which stuck a 2014 Volkswagen Passat driven by Dzemil Hamzic, 54, of St. Louis, which struck a 2009 Chevrolet Cruze driven by Joseph P. Cochran, 55, of St. Louis, which struck a 2006 Pontiac Torrent driven by Lerin D. Burns, 36, of French Village.

Margaret Burns, Norton, Susan Duff and a passenger in her car, William M. Duff, 65, of St. Louis, all were taken to Mercy Hospital South by the Mehlville Fire Protection District with minor injuries.

All involved parties were wearing seat belts.
