Letter: Stuppy Offers Opinion On City’s Residency Requirements, Other Items

To the Editor:

I have a few things to address.

In response to the proposed change to the residency requirement of the city administrator and chief of police: What a joke! If you don’t want to live here, work somewhere else.

As a former alderman, I’m getting tired of the board changing the rules for the good ole boys. I think the board is looking more for a pretty picture in the paper than running City Hall efficiently.

And another thing: It is sad to see Ochs Furniture go away to the ignorance of the board and Chamber of Commerce. Nobody talked to Ochs about property in the industrial park. He generated $125,000 a year in sales tax. That tells me they could give a hoot about my business or the rest of the businesses. Oh well, they will just try to raise taxes more.

Wake up, Ste. Genevieve, and smell the coffee. Get involved in your city, or we are going to be like the city south of us. Look at all the “Closed,” “For Rent” and “For Sale” signs around town.

As for the city administrator retiring, goodbye. Leave tomorrow. You won’t be missed. My cat could take your place; and to think you are going to help pick the new administrator. That’s like the fox guarding the hen house.

I encourage everyone to storm City Hall at the next meeting, Thursday February 27, and tell them Hell no on changing the residency requirement of the city administrator and chief of police.

Thank you for reading.

John Stuppy,

Ste. Genevieve
