SGMS Spellers Reach Third Round In Conference Bee

Three students from Ste. Genevieve Middle School (SGMS) represented the R-II School District at the 2019-20 conference spelling bee on February 4 at North County High School.

All three students — sixth-grader Madden Wolk, eighth-grader Hannah Woodruff and eighth-grader Sophia DeRousse — made it to the third round of the competition. Thirty contestants from area schools participated.

To determine which students participate in the conference competition, SGMS conducts an annual school spelling bee, which this year took place on January 16. SGMS English language arts teachers Ashley Mertzlufft and Kelly Jokerst manage the school bee each year.
