Tentative 2020-21 Schedule For Ste. Genevieve R-II Schools Presented To Board Of Education

Dr. Julie Flieg, superintendent of the Ste. Genevieve R-II School District, unveiled a tentative calendar for the 2020-21 school year during the January 21 board meeting.

The calendar, which high school principal Chris Hoehne said was approved unanimously by the calendar committee, has an opening day of school on Monday, August 24; a final day of classes on Friay, May 21, 2021; and graduation on Saturday, May 22, 2021.

“Our typical process, the committee gets together and starts working through transferring the current calendar over to next year’s base,” Flieg said. “But, as you know, this was a little bit different because of the legislation that was enacted. That does not allow schools to be in session more than 14 days before Labor Day. So, this one was a little more tricky; it took more time.”

One employee survey has already been taken, she said. One request was that school be out before Memorial Day.

“It all should work well, since Memorial Day is May 31 this [school] year [2021], the very last day of the month,” Flieg said.

The Missouri State High School Activities Association “Dead Period,” during which there can be no contact between teachers and students, is Saturday, August 1, through Sunday, August 9. Fall sports practices will be able to start on Monday, August 10.

Registration for the elementary schools will be Monday, August 10, for Bloomsdale and Tuesday, August 11, for Ste. Genevieve. Middle school registration is Wednesday, August 12, and high school registration is Thursday, August 13.

Monday, August 17, and Tuesday, August 18, are professional development days for all employees, while Wednesday, August 19 is a teacher work day.

School opens Monday, August 24, with mid-semester grade check on Friday, October 23. Quarters are no longer being used by the district.

There will be a 1 p.m. dismissal on Wednesday, November 25, for Thanksgiving break and again on Friday, December 18, to begin the Christmas holiday break.

School resumes January 4, 2021, with first semester officially ending January 8.

Another mid-semester grade check will be Wednesday, March 17.

Students will be off Thursday, April 1, through Monday, April 5, for Easter break.

School ends at 1 p.m. May 21, with graduation at 8 p.m. May 22. Snow makeup days would begin on Monday, May 24.
