SGCMH Preps For 21st Annual Women’s Health Fair On Feb. 29
Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital (SGCMH) will host its 21st annual Women’s Health Fair at the hospital on Saturday, February 29 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event — this year entitled Leap into Health with 2020 Vision — is free and open to the public. It will include activities and information for women of all ages.
“We’re delighted to hold this annual community outreach event,” said Tina Poston, director of marketing and community relations at the hospital. “This event provides an ideal opportunity for the community to explore local health and wellness resources in a fun, interactive, low-pressure setting. Most hospital departments will share information on their many services, and outside vendors and community organizations will also have booths.”
Poston said the speaker presentations will be a big attraction again this year.
The Ste. Genevieve County Community Center will introduce participants to Barre Fitness at 9 a.m.; Regine Politte, MSN, FNP-BC, will discuss diabetes management at 10 a.m.; Health Coach Maria Rottler will talk about wellness and preventive care at 11 a.m. To close out the fair, a physicians roundtable will provide the latest information on vaping.
Attend one or all of the speaker presentations to be eligible for a $20 gift card awarded after each presentation.
“We hope health is on the minds of our visitors and they take advantage of the health screenings we have available,” Poston said. “There will be free blood pressure and pulmonary function tests given and free flu shots. For a nominal $15 charge, they can have a fit screening.”
The screenings include total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglycerides. For best results, 12-hour fasting is recommended. Call 573-883-4488 to schedule a time slot from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m.
The fair attracts nearly 400 women each year, and part of the attraction is the many vendor booths that include skin and facial professionals, hair stylists, massage therapists, home decor, do-it-yourself experts, and many community businesses and organizations. Crown Hospice will return with its popular photo booth and the Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Partners will provide chicken salad sandwiches.
Poston said a popular attraction this year will be tours of the new medical office building, which will be completed by early spring.
“Every woman who attends will receive a free gift, and our many vendors always provide numerous giveaways to our fair-goers,” said Poston. “Lakenan Insurance has come through again this year with our surprise $500 grand prize. We hope everyone comes out for the fair to get inspired about health, beauty, fashion, fitness, food, home and even financial tips.”
