Two Candidates File For Aldermanic Spots In St. Mary

Clyde Cassoutt, who returned to the city of St. Mary Board of Aldermen in December by appointment to fill out the remaining months on the first year of Jennifer Weiss’s two-year term, has filed to run for the two-year term as Ward 1 alderman instead of the remaining year on his current seat.

Weiss resigned in 2019 after her husband’s new position meant she would be traveling more and not able to attend meetings. She had defeated Cassoutt 17-15 in the April 2019 Municipal Election to earn re-election to her seat.

Zenon Duda, who had also expressed interest in taking the position left by Weiss’s resignation, has filed for the one-year term.

The two-year seat up for election in Ward 1 is currently held by Brian Helms, the senior member of the Board of Aldermen. He had not filed as of last Friday.
